Father and son kayakers rescued by Coast Guard in Destin on Red Flag day

The Coast Guard in Destin helped to find 2 kayakers in Destin.

A father and a son from Kentucky were kayaking in rough waters during a Red Flag day.

The kayak began to take on water, and the two were forced to swim.

The father was able to make it to shore, but the son was pulled about a mile down the beach through rough surf.

The boy was found and safely returned to his family.

The rescue was conducted in joint efforts between the Coast Guard, Destin Life Guards, and Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Red Flags are currently flying in Orange Beach, Fort Walton, Navarre, and Destin.

Yellow Flags are flying in Pensacola and Gulf Shores, so be sure to use caution and obey warnings of swimming conditions by officials.
