Pentagon on the F-35

The Department of Defense says a recent F-35A jet fire at Eglin Air Force base was caused by excessive rubbing.

Investigators say blades in the engine of the F-35A rubbed together.
The increased stress caused the engine to fail.

This led to the engine blades coming off,  making contact with jet fuel and catching it on fire.

F-35's have been grounded since.
The jet was to make it's international air show debut in Farnsborough England this week.

But no sign of the jet flying yet.
The F-35 family of jets is the most expensive defense project in US history.
