Okaloosa County transit service's future

Okaloosa County is deciding the future of its bus service.

"The Wave" is operated with rider fares, supplemented by state, federal, and county funds.

The county's share has been 315,000 dollars annually for the last several years.

But the county's growth management director that amount would more than double this year.
Commissioners are now considering whether to end regular bus service.

That would leave some riders without many options.
Cleo "If they didn't have the bus, there would be a lot of unemployed people here in Fort Walton Beach that usually take the bus for the Destin jobs."

A public hearing on the bus system will be held July 15th at 8:30 am at the water and sewer building in Fort Walton Beach.
