Pricey Fourth of July cookouts

The cost of beef has risen more than 10 percent this year which could change some peoples plans for grilling this Fourth of July.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the price of deli and hot dogs have also risen.  They are now up a little more than 3 percent.
Kevin Green owns the Butcher Shoppe.  He has prepared his store with the meat he thinks people want for the holiday weekend. Green says "Chicken, hamburgers, ribs are always good, but we'll sell mainly steaks."

Since the price of meat has risen, he says his customers have cut back.  Green says "We have seen some people trade down to chicken and pork because it is less expensive, but even those prices have firmed up some."

Green says over the last five years severe weather has played a large role in the price you see in all stores, but that's not stopping some from buying quality meat to celebrate.

Leeanne Patterson says "I think it is worth it. Fourth of July is huge so why not just go ahead and splurge on it?"

Marcie Reber says This time of year they always have baby backs at Sam's or just look for the ads and find out where it is on sale.
