'Amelia Earhart' Completes Flight Around the World

OAKLAND, Calif. --It's been said 'there's something in a name.'

31-year-old Amelia Rose Earhart is from Denver.

She is named for pilot Amelia Earhart, and she is celebrating a feat her namesake could not.

She circled the world in a single-engine plane.

Her plane touched down in Oakland, Calif. Friday finishing her long journey around the globe.

"It was an amazing journey we feel like we had Amelia there with us symbolically closing her flight plan," Earhart said. "She left off near Helen Island and we flew over Helen itself."

The 24,300 mile trip took 18 days.
Earhart is now the youngest woman to have traveled around the world in a single-engine plane.
