Florida Forest Service promotes wildfire prevention with new Disney movie
MILTON, FL The Florida Forest Service has partnered up with several local movie theaters to take part in an outreach program promoting wildfire prevention and the new Disney movie Planes: Fire & Rescue.
On Friday, July 18, FFS firefighters will be at the opening of the new movie which features cartoon versions of some of the equipment airplanes, helicopters and bulldozers used throughout Florida in the suppression of wildfires. The goal behind this effort is to put a face to the cartoon characters and show children that what they see on screen is a part of the Forest Services everyday job. Firefighters and foresters will have Planes coloring pages and activities as well as Florida Forest Service equipment for movie goers to check out.
Its an opportunity to connect with the younger audience and teach them that what theyve seen in the movie is a very real thing, said Joe Zwierzchowski, Public Information Officer for the FFS Blackwater District. With an increase in fire activity out west and the always present threat of wildfires here at home, were excited to be part of it. That and were pretty excited about the movie ourselves. Its not every day your job gets made into a cartoon movie.
