Bands On The Beach crowds threaten two species of shorebirds
The Santa Rosa Island Authority is keeping a close eye on two threatened speices of shorebirds near the area where bands on the beach perform.
Audubon Florida volunteers say beach-goers were walking through a roped-off nesting area near Landshark Landing Bar and Grill, putting the birds at risk.
The SRIA say they are going to have more manpower watching over the nest for future performances. "We just wanted to make sure that no one in fact was walking through that and if so let them know there is yellow tape around there for a reason," said Robbie Schrock.
Many of the eggs are expected to hatch next week.
Then in about 4 weeks the chicks will be able to fly away.
