Scenic Highway open for first time since April flood

Pensacola's Scenic Highway is open for the first time since it was washed out during the April flood.

It was closed for two and a half months for repairs.

On the night of April 29th, part of the highway washed into Escambia Bay when more than two feet of rain fell in less than 24 hours.

Two vehicles fell into the washout.

Crews began repairing the road May 14th.

They installed new drainage, culverts, a guard rail, and a retaining wall.

The highway is now open to traffic but FDOT says drivers may encounter periodic lane closures.

More repairs are still being done north of Scenic Highway Circle.

The Florida Department of Transportation says this project cost $1.2 million.
