Flood repair work on Piedmont Road continues

Final road repairs on Piedmont Road in Pensacola are underway.  The road was washed out in Aprils flood.

The city says they are expected to bid out a contractor and have an established rebuilding plan in the next 30 days.  Once selected, the contractor has 90-days to finish the project.

The road was temporarily paved with gravel after Aprils flood washed it out.  There is now gravel on the road which is part of the temporary plan to repair the road.

When the water flooded Piedmont Road, it washed debris on some homeowners front yards.  Martin Doria is among them and says the road is a mess but when I ask questions, they [the workers] bring me up to date really well, you know I am very, very pleased with the workers. They have been very courteous, very helpful and I am very pleased with them."

Beth McClure also lives on Piedmont Road and says she cant wait for the road to be paved.  "I have four kids so being able to ride out bikes and not go bump, bump, bump until we get to the sidewalk is nice." She says "It seems like it would be something very superficial or something silly.  Big deal, you are getting your road paved, but it kind of brings some closure.  Like you are ready, you are done, you have recovered and you are ready to move on."

The final road repairs are to pave the road and fix irrigation systems, like what you see in this yard.

If the city sticks to their plan, construction on this road will be finished by November.
