Lottery system may be used for 5 medical marijuana licenses in Florida
The state may use a lottery system to decide which nurseries will get one of the five Florida medical marijuana licenses.
That's according to a draft rule released last week by the Department of Health.
There are some requirements for applicants who want to participate though:
- must have been doing business in Florida for at least 30 years
- must have produced 400,000 plants
There are 41 nurseries that currently meet the state's criteria.
The chosen dispensary would have 30 days to pay $150,000 for a license and post a $5 million performance bond.
If the applicant fails to meet the financial obligations, the Department would start the selection process over again.
