Special Needs scholarship offered by "Step up for Students" organization

Parents of special needs students can apply for a new scholarship, starting Friday.

The Florida Personal Learning Scholarship Account can be used for private schools, therapists, specialists, and other learning opportunities.

The state set aside 18.4 million dollars for the scholarships.
They're available to students with severe cognitive impairment or particular conditions, such as Autism or Cerebral Palsy.

Alisha Sloan of Pensacola is applying for her son Christopher, who is living with Autism.
Alisha Sloan: "To hear about this scholarship was very exciting to us, because with Christopher, you know, there are different things that you need, software, adaptive curriculum, different therapies that would definitely help in taking him out and homeschooling him."

The scholarships will be administered by the organization "Step up for students."
