TRACKING THE TROPICS

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean that may become another depression though chances are low.

Okaloosa County to decide future of bus service

Okaloosa County will decide the future of its bus service this week.

"The Wave" is operated with rider fares, supplemented by state, federal, and county funds.

The county's share has been 315-thousand dollars annually for the last several years, but the county's growth management director says this year the county would have to give an extra 329-thousand to keep the buses running.

They've asked for local cities to kick in, but none have responded.

He says without the help, the only option is to discontinue the fixed routes.

A public hearing on the bus system will be held July 15th at 8:30 A.M. at the Water and Sewer Building in Fort Walton Beach.
