VA audit results released
Thousands of military veterans are waiting to receive care at VA facilities across the country.
That's according to a new internal audit released today (Monday) by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
More than 57,000 vets are waiting for care.
And almost 70,000 have been in the system for the past ten years, but have not been seen for an appointment.
The audit results come as congress convenes a hearing into the scandal rocking the nation's military hospitals.
Florida Congressman Jeff Miller heads up the Committee on Veterans Affairs.
Here's what he thinks about the next director of the embattled agency.
Sloan Gibson's doing a great job as the interim. He's only been in the position for about a week. He's only been at the V.A. for about three months. He's got the capability and he certainly has the attitude, I think, to get in and shake things up inside this culture that's within the system.
Gibson took over for General Eric Shinseki who resigned last week amid growing outrage over the treatment or last lack of medical treatment, for the nation's vets.
