Mosquito-born virus increases in Florida

Florida health leaders are reminding people to protect themselves against mosquitoes during the state's rainy season.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have reported at least 25 cases of a mosquito-borne virus called Chikungunya.

That's more than 60 percent of the cases in the United States. The virus can be transferred from mosquitoes to humans and back to other mosquitoes. The virus can cause severe joint pain and arthritis-like symptoms that last for months.

It has no cure and no treatment. The CDC says it was brought into the country by infected travelers who had recently been to the Caribbean.
