Navarre students dress in duct tape for chance to win national scholarship

Prom can be a highlight for many high school students, but for one couple from Navarre, it could also help pay for college.  All because of what they wore.

There's a lot that goes into choosing a prom outfit.  There's style and function, but sometimes those choices can get a little sticky.

Chloey Guy was looking for college scholarship ideas on the internet when one caught her attention.
"That's really weird.  And I told my parents about it every day for a really long time, and then decided I finally had to do it."

The challenge was to make a prom dress and tux out of duct tape.
"There's a dress underneath it.  And there's tape on top of it, but everything that you can see is tape."

Chloey and her date Aaron Streacker started cutting, ripping and sticking duct tape. Lots of it.  3500 circles cut out by hand.
"I was gonna do it.  I was determined that I was going to do it.  Because it started to look really good, and then I was like, oh, this is even better!  It actually looks good!"

Making a prom outfit out of duck tape isn't a new idea.  But it could be profitable.  Both Chloey and Aaron could win $10,000, with $5,000 more going to Navarre High School.  And that's where you come in...
"I need you guys to vote.  All the time.  Once a day per email address until the 8th of July..."

Chloey says she plans to pursue an education as an Equine Veterinarian.
"Ten thousand would be pretty nice!"

But she probably won't be designing or wearing any more outfits like this...
"It's not easy to take on and off... and I get stuck in it a lot.  Which is kind of funny, cause it's tape."
