"Florida First Sites," new Gulf Power website

Gulf Power has a new website that's designed to showcase shovel-ready parcels of land that prospective businesses can build on quickly.
It's called "Florida First Sites"

This project is the first of it's kind for Florida.
"You might recognize the scenery behind me.  It's the Pensacola International Airport.  But also on this property are sites like this, undeveloped, ready for new business to come in.  Now a new site certification by Gulf Power is hoping to attract those businesses."

It's called Florida First Sites, an interactive website that showcases prime industrial locations in Northwest Florida.  Gulf Power got the idea from looking at other states.

"Other states have sites that have been certified.  That is, a site consultant has gone in and given their stamp of approval that says this site is ready for development.  We didn't have any sites like that in the state of Florida.  So we kicked off this program so that we could be competitive with other states when we bring industry in."

Land is judged by an independent certification company on factors like size, zoning, proximity to airports, interstates, and railways, and availability of utilities.  The goal is to have locations accessible for businesses without the risk.

Candace Mitchell/Pensacola International Airport Properties Manager
"I think just having the property ready to go is more approachable than just going out and finding a random piece and not knowing what you're going to run into."

"These prospects are not just coming here.  They're going to Alabama, they're going to Georgia, they're going all over the world really.  And when Alabama and Georgia show them a beautiful certified site that's ready to go, and we show them a cow pasture, we can't compete."

The website currently shows 4 sites in Santa Rosa County, one in Escambia and one in Okaloosa.  Gulf Power is considering more locations in the future.

"Gulf Power has been wonderful to work with and we're excited to be one of the first ones locally."
