Escambia County bus driver faces charges for slapping special needs student

An Escambia County school bus driver is facing charges after slapping a nine-year-old student with special needs.
   
The driver, Pamela Hardy was arrested yesterday.
She is charged with cruelty towards a child.

Here is surveillance video of the incident.
After a confrontation between the two, nine-year-old Marquis appears to hit Hardy  and Hardy hits the child back.
   
Marquis' mother, Timisha Cotton says Hardy was in her son's personal space and as an adult is not justified hitting a child.

"I don't want even want her working with children. Period."
"He has developmental delays and hearing loss." "and I love watching cartoons."

Superintendent Malcolm Thomas told Channel Three News that Hardy has been placed on paid leave..
   
And will not have any contact with students while Pensacola Police investigates the incident.
