Highway 98 construction in Gulf Breeze

Gulf Breeze traffic has been backed up within the last few weeks.
A construction project has reduced east bound traffic from 3 lanes down to 2 and it's caused quite a headache for some drivers.

The heavy rain that caused massive flooding in April has left its mark on a busy portion of Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze.
Drainage pipes underneath the road near Highway 98 and Shoreline drive were damaged during the storm.

The Florida Department of Transportation started repairs on the road about a month ago.
In the meantime, traffic and nearby businesses have been affected.

Reann Myers works at the Valero gas station which is just a few feet away from the construction site.
"It's been very slow, and we haven't been making any money really," said Myers. "Before this it was very busy and now it's just the people that live behind us"

Johnnie Greene is a regular customer at Valero and he can't wait to see the safety cones removed and the street open again next week.
"Praise God if it is, if it isn't, plan on stopping on Pensacola side of the Bay bridge and start playing cards"

Weather permitting, the construction is expected to be finished by next Monday before the holiday weekend.
