F-35 catches on fire at Eglin
An F-35 joint strike fighter was possibly destroyed in a fire at Eglin Air Force Base.
According to the U.S. naval institute, the fire happened Monday on the runway when the aircraft was getting ready for a training session. The fire occurred in the rear part of the plane where the engine is located.
A Pentagon spokesman told Reuters news agency that the pilot aborted the takeoff and was not injured. The F-35 was assigned to the 33rd "Nomads" fighter wing.
The U.S. Air Force has now temporarily halted flights at Eglin of 26 F-35-a fighter jets built by Lockheed Martin.
