Blue Springs house fire kills 60 yr old woman

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. An Escambia County woman was found dead Tuesday, following a house fire.   Investigators have not determined a cause of death, but say there were no smoke detectors in the house.   The State Fire Marshalls Office is investigating what was started the fire.    They were called out to the house on the 700 block of Blue Springs Road around 2:30 p.m.   Fire fighters say someone driving by noticed fire and smoke rising from the house and called 9-1-1.   Jason McGinnis who lives nearby saw says the fire consumed the home quickly.   It was very loud, very intense, he said.  One second you smell something, another minute the whole house was engulfed in flames.   Witnesses say flames and smoke were shooting out of the windows by the time fire fighters arrived.    Crews say they found a woman in one of the rooms.  She was pronounced dead on scene.   Several people say her dog died in the fire as well.   Cheryl Howard is a family friend. She says the woman lived in the house with her two grown sons.   She knew her as Ms. Leah, who is in her 60s or 70s.   She was a sweet woman, she said.  She could cook and would clown with us and she was just as sweet, sweet person.   She also said Ms. Leah worked at the navy base before retiring and was battling some illnesses.   I just saw her Friday, Howard said. She was sick, she had some medical issues.   Red Cross volunteers are helping the family with clothing and any needs they have.
