Court says BP can not avoid paying fines for 2010 oil spill

A federal appeals court says BP cannot avoid Clean Water Act fines for the 2010 oil spill.
They were trying to get out of the fines by blaming Transocean for its failed equipment.

But the court says the oil came from their well, so they are liable.
Transocean owned the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and the blowout preventer.

It pleaded guilty last year to a misdemeanor clean water act violation and agreed to pay a one-billion-dollar fine.
