Santa Rosa County shooting sends two to hospital

An overnight shooting in Navarre sent two people to the hospital.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's office has named 41-year-old Hale Normand as a suspect in the shooting.

Investigators are seeking warrants for two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Early Friday morning, neighbors in this Navarre neighborhood were awoken by gunshots coming from this home.

Around 1:30 Friday morning Santa Rosa deputies were in the area of Hardington Street in Navarre for a possible burglary.

Turns out it was a domestic dispute between a man and a woman at the home.

Wayne Miller lives across the street and heard the gunshots.

"Nothing like this has ever happened in the neighborhood as far as a shooting goes," said Miller.

The woman was at the home with a male acquaintance, when the suspect, 41-year-old Hale Normand showed up.

Normand and the woman started arguing, and moments later Normand shot himself in the head.

As the woman called for help, Normand managed to fire several shots at the woman.

Shots were also fired at her acquaintance.

"A gun being shot inside the house, then I heard two outside shots, then after I walked outside I saw a guy laying in the front yard" said Miller.

Both Normand and the woman were taken to Baptist Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Michael Barrs also lives in the neighborhood. He says this kind of activity is rare.

Barrs said, "It's kind of startling and we've had some petty crimes around this area but nothing this severe so kind of scary."

The Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office is still investigating this shooting. A spokesperson says Hale Normand will be charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into a dwelling.
