"Kids unlimited" meet with former Astronaut

Some children got the chance to meet a former Astronaut today.

Doctor Tom Jones is a former United States Astronaut with Nasa.
He completed four space shuttle flights to space before retiring in 2001.

Today he stopped by "kids unlimited", a camp for underprivileged children in Pensacola.
He spoke with the kids about his experiences and his career.

He says he hopes he inspired some of them to follow in his footsteps.
We are looking for some very smart scientists and engineers of the future, inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs, who are going to make humans a multi-planet species.  I think it's that kind of imagination and talent in this new generation that's going to carry us far.

Since leaving Nasa, Jones has worked as a Planetary Scientist and Consultant in Space Operations.
He is a senior research scientist at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, engaged in planning robotic and astronaut expeditions to deep space and the near-earth asteroids.
He is also an author and speaker.
