BERTHA QUICKLY HEADING WEST-NORTHWEST

Tropical Storm Bertha formed over the Atlantic Thursday night and is heading west-northwest.  It has winds of 45 miles per hour and is not forecast to become a hurricane. The storm is not forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico.

Lifeguards rescue 18 people this past weekend

Lifeguards say swimmers need to be more careful after they had to save 18 people on Saturday alone.   
   
They say swimmers need to be more cautious of the rip currents than the strong waves,

There is an event this weekend to raise awareness about rip currents.
Lifeguards for the Santa Rosa Island Authority and Pensacola Beach's beach patrol will be there to teach about beach safety.
   
There will also be food, drinks, and music.
It starts at noon and goes till six at the Pensacola Bay Brewery.
   
It's estimated 80 percent of rescues happen because someone gets caught in a rip current.
