Kansas City Man Wears Stolen Costume to Nearby Bar, Arrested by Police

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Police in Kansas City say a man was under the influence of something - they won't say what - when he busted over a shop window and stole an elaborate costume.

Police caught up with the suspect after he stopped to have a drink at a nearby bar.

Around 8:30 p.m. someone threw a brick through the window of a costume shop on 20th and Grand.  The thief took off with a yellow cape and headdress.

An hour later, the suspected costumed bandit showed up at the Cashew, a nearby restaurant.

Amanda Blancarte, a waitress and bartender says she's he struggled to get in.

"everyone wanted to take pictures with him," she said. "He made the really quiet. Everybody just watched him walk in. I'm really shocked he came back to the scene of the crime or so close to it.  He didn't he'd get caught."

Officers arrested the suspect about 15 minutes into his stop at the bar.

The owner of the costume store, Steve Short, says the cape is part of an elaborate showgirl costume.  The suspect forgot the boa.

"When you break a window and somebody gets injured and items are stolen, that is not a joke," Short said.
