Barbara Walters retires

It was a star-studded send-off for Barbara Walters today as she co-hosted 'The View' for the very last time.

ABC's Marci Gonzalez was in the studio as they taped that final show and talked to the broadcast icon about retirement.

After 18 years- on this show and more than 50 years in the business Barbara Walters is now retired.

Visits from famous friends
Hillary Clinton / Oprah
But, even as she celebrates Walters can't help but to do - what she does best.   Ask - the big questions.

BW: The question I want to ask is are you gonna run.
HC: Well I am running but around the park
Michael Douglas: If Hillary runs I think you'd be a great Vice President

"That may not happen but Barbara will still work as co-Executive Producer of The View and isn't ruling out taking on some assignments at ABC News in the future."

But  for now she's focusing on the present after 5 decades of groundbreaking interviews. 

She is ready for some quiet time.
I look forward to not having a schedule I look forward to traveling it's a whole new chapter in my life and I hope it will be a wonderful one I hope I won't do woulda coulda shoulda which is what I've done in the past

Her career  paving the way for so many women including - the broadcasting icons - who came out to honor her during this final taping.

That she hopes will be her legacy as she now- enjoys the view of a remarkable career and a memorable send-off
