Pensacola City Council approves lease agreement for fish hatchery downtown

PENSACOLA  --  A plan to build a fish hatchery in downtown Pensacola is one step closer to reality.
The Pensacola City Council approved a lease agreement last night.
The plan is to build a "Marine Resource Center" on Bruce Beach, near the Maritime Park using BP money.
It would be used to breed and raise young sport fish, like red snapper.
Supporters say it will help the recreational fishing industry.
Critics say it's not a good use of prime waterfront property.
No word yet when the hatchery will be built.
