Teachers return to flooded Holm Elementary today

Happening today-- teachers from Holm Elementary will return to the school after last weeks flood waters caused a lot of damage. Students will return to school Tuesday.

Channel 3's Kalie Desimone joins us live from the school with details.

Two wings inside the school were more seriously damaged than originally thought. In some places there was 20 inches of water.

"The two wings of the school damaged by flood water will not be used for the rest of the year. The walls in those hallways will have to be stripped out and totally replaced due to water and contaminants. In the meantime the plan is to repurpose other rooms like the cafeteria and the gym. Those two larger spaces should accommodate 80 percent of the classes. The rest of the needed classroom space will be utilized at workman middle school which is just right next door," said Malcolm Thomas, superintendent of the Escambia County School District.

This arrangement will be for the remainder of the school year.
