Air Force asking for more training space

The Air Force needs more training space in Northwest Florida.
They're trying to accommodate F-35 and Special Forces training along with weapons testing.

For a couple of years, they've been studying the idea of using Blackwater State Forest for some on-the- ground and aircraft training.

Now, they've started taking public comments on the proposal.
An Eglin Air Force Base spokesperson says their goal is to get the extra space they need without interfering with the environment or any current use of the forest.

They've scheduled a public hearing for June 5th at 6 pm at the Bagdad Recreation Facility on School Street in Milton.

The open house will include an Air Force presentation as well as a chance to ask questions.

You can also comment online. The website is listed on weartv.com under Newslinks.
Public comments will be taken through June 23.
