Governor Rick Scott tours Pensacola damage

Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency for Northwest Florida, 26 counties in all.

Scott toured portions of Pensacola yesterday. While he was here he pledged state and federal support for rebuilding. Scott also mobilized the National Guard to help out.

Scott says officials received hundred of calls in the Pensacola area requesting evacuations from the flood waters. More than 200 rescues were reported.

"That's what everyone has said. They said, we didn't have this sort of flooding with Ivan, and their homes weren't flooded, businesses weren't flooded. They think 22 inches of water, as much as 5 inches in an hour, and the water came up so fast when you talked to the families. You saw cars just thrown down a road, pushed down upside down. People have lost everything.  And they didn't buy flood insurance because they didn't think they were in a flood area."

Scott was accompanied by Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward, Escambia Sheriff David Morgan, and several Escambia county commissioners.
