Hundreds of Escambia Co school kids take part in International Water Safety Day

Hundreds of Escambia County kids are learning how to swim today.
The school district is taking part in International Water Safety Day by taking students from several schools to Cecil Hunter Pool for swimming lessons.

They are learning how to float, paddle and what to do if they get in trouble.
Sponsors of the event say they want to make sure the kids know how to stay safe in the water.

"Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in kids one to fourteen, so we're trying to make sure they know what to do in case somebody gets into trouble around water."

After the hard work is done, the kids will get some time to play in the pool and on the slides.
