Drainage system affected by storm flooding in Escambia Co.

In Escambia County, the drainage system was overwhelmed during the late April storm.
Reports indicate 26-inches of rain fell in some areas in just a few hours.

County leaders say they have more than 40 drainage improvement projects underway.

One of the projects under construction is at Lake Charlene.
It was one of the hardest hit areas during the flood.

While the drainage upgrades started before the flooding, some people are still angry it wasn't done sooner.
"For my children and my dogs and my family, having to swim out, I'm furious. They've been told about this, they know about this and they're not taking care of the problem."

County Commissioner Gene Valentino says the drainage problems at Lake Charlene are among hundreds in the county.
Valentino says the county needs a master plan to protect those communities.
