Marines help rebuild homes in Gulf Breeze

More than 100 Marines were in Gulf Breeze this weekend. They were there to help rebuild homes.

They are enlisted Marines who are awaiting training. They helped clean up about 30 homes yesterday. It was coordinated through the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, the flood command center for South Santa Rosa County.

More than 150 homes have been fixed since the enlisted Marines arrived.

The Marines pulled up flooring and wet drywall and moved all the heavy items in the homes that had been trashed.

"You know I live up north, I'm pretty clueless as to what's been going on down here and I got down here and saw the destruction that these homes have experienced and just to get a group of people in here, we get a group and in about a half hour you can already see huge improvement."

"I open my door and there's a column of Marines standing in my front yard. It's amazing. The help that they're providing us, it almost brings a tear to my eyes."

This group of Marines will be in the Gulf Breeze and Pensacola area for another week.
