Weather Alert

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean that may become another depression though chances are low.

Shalimar flooding

Flooding and road closures hit Okaloosa County as well.
A number of roads and bridges were closed because of the high flood waters.
Channel Three's Rob Brown tells us how the weather affected those residents.

Rob Brown "This is Eglin Parkway through Shalimar, and it's one of many locations that Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies have had to shut down throughout the county because of extreme amounts of rain over the road all night long.

You can't see it very well in the dark, obviously, but just in front of the bright lights of that gas station down there, water is so thick across Eglin Parkway, between ankle and knee deep in some spots.

One gentleman we talked to who was watching cars go by before the deputies got here said he was seeing headlights be submerged because of how much water was splashing up into the front of trucks.

Now it's not limited to just here in Shalimar, we've heard that same story in Crestview, numerous parts of highway 85 have seen cars become bogged down in the water. A number of areas were shut down in Ft. Walton Beach, along Racetrack Road and Eglin Parkway.

The same is true on Highway 98, we heard reports out of both Destin and in front of Hurlburt Field, that 98 had to be shut down in certain areas because of the amount of water on the roadways. And that's been the story, because of this heavy rain all night long, and into the morning. We'll be covering as this extreme weather rolls through the area. In Shalimar, Rob Brown, Channel Three News."
