"Island Fights 28" coming to Pensacola in May

PENSACOLA  --  PENSACOLA  --  Roy Jones Jr's Square Ring Promotions and Island Fights is back at the Pensacola Bay Center on May 9th with their biggest fight card to date.

"Dean Toole has put together another stacked fight card that features some of the best talent across the nation", said Roy Jones, Jr., President of Square Ring Promotions.

Square Ring Promotions has promoted a number of pro MMA events across the U.S. and was the first promoter to promote a nationally televised pay per view hybrid boxing and MMA event.

The main event on May 9th is sure to be a war with two colossal heavyweights, Pensacola's own Dillon "Bad Boy" Cleckler vs Johnathan "The Leg Lock Monster" Ivey.  This will be Cleckler's toughest test to date, in preparation for this fight Cleckler has been training with UFC veteran Alan "The Talent" Belcher and is excited to showcase his new arsenal in front of his fans. Ivey on the other hand, has fought some of the biggest names in the sport; such as Ken Shamrock, Ricco Rodriguez and Big Ben Rockwell just to name a few.

Cleckler looks to continue his undefeated streak by beating a "veteran" such as Ivey.  Ivey stated "Most of my big fights have been on short notice, but Island Fights has been a class act all the way around and they have given me more than enough time to prepare for May 9th.

I am looking forward to showing the MMA fans in Florida what a well trained Leg Lock Monster can do."
Cleckler not one to be intimated, especially in his hometown, responded by saying "Ivey is definitely experienced in the fight game and I fully expect for him to come prepared for a war".  In order to cement my name in the sport I have to beat Ivey in a decisive manner, I will not let this fight go to the judges.

The co-main event will feature Chris Barrnett vs. Richard White, for the Island Fights Super Heavyweight Title.
Barrnett, always a crowd favorite and ranked the #1 Super Heavyweight in the country will be bringing all of his skills to the ring on May 9th.  He has a tough test in front of him facing Bellator veteran "Big" Richard White who has ranked up 17 victories in his career.

Barnett not one for trash talking, started out by saying I respect everyone that steps in the ring and puts it all on the line, but come May 9th there is no way that White will be able to withstand my power and my take downs over 5 rounds.  I fully expect to walk out of the ring as the first Island Fights Super Heavyweight Champion.

White on the other hand stated that "I believe this fight will be a stand up war and will go all 5 five rounds ending with my name being announced as the Island Fights Super Heavy Champion."
The undercard will also feature Tito Jones taking on Elvin Brito.   Both Jones and Brito have an extensive background in boxing, so look for this fight to take place in the middle of the ring.  Dean Toole said this fight is looking to be the fight of the night.

Also on the card is 17-1 amateur and undefeated pro Aubray Collier who will be taking on undefeated pro and XFC Super Heavyweight Champion Chaz Morgan.  This fight is one of the most heated rivalries in Island Fight history.

Rounding out the card is Dunn vs Caceres, Oselukwae vs Byrd, Farrington vs Holyko, Johnson vs Camp, Turnquest vs Evans, Barnett vs Colvin, Greene vs Abraham and both Brok Weaver and James Freeman will be fighting opponents to be named.

Tickets are on sale now.  Tickets prices are $50.00 (VIP), $40.00, and $30.00. Tickets are available at the Pensacola Bay Center Box Office, Ticketmaster by phone 1-800-745-3000 or online at or Facility fee and convenience charges may apply.
