BERTHA QUICKLY HEADING WEST-NORTHWEST

Tropical Storm Bertha formed over the Atlantic Thursday night and is heading west-northwest.  It has winds of 45 miles per hour and is not forecast to become a hurricane. The storm is not forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico.

Florida Legislators reach a deal on most of spending

FLORIDA  --  Florida legislators have a reached a deal over most of the spending that will be included in a new 75-billion-dollar state budget.

House and senate budget chiefs met shortly before midnight this morning.
Part of the deal includes a 2.6 % boost in spending on public school students.

They also agreed to give a 5 % pay raise to judicial employees and state law-enforcement officers including Highway Patrol Troopers.
