Florida plane makes emergency landing in Tampa

A flight from north to south Florida made an emergency landing in Tampa last night after a report of smoke onboard.

American Airlines Envoy Flight 3454 with 50 people on board took off from Tallahassee last night and was en route to Miami International Airport.

About 25 minutes into the flight passengers say they heard a loud boom and then smelled smoke.

The pilot requested an emergency landing.
No one was injured.
But once on the ground-emergency personnel tended to a passenger with asthma and others who were hyperventilating.

"We dipped down we had to embrace ourselves, we dipped down we had to hold our knees. I was visibly shaken extremely emotional thinking like this was the end."

American Airlines says there actually was no explosion.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Before take-off the flight had been delayed by about two-hours for maintenance issues.

But American Airlines says that was unrelated.
