Handful of democratic lawmakers try to live on minimum wage

WASHINGTON  --  A handful of democratic lawmakers are scaling back their paychecks and trying to shop and live on a minimum wage budget.

Florida's minimum wage sits at 7.93.
That is nearly 70 cents more than the federal minimum wage which is currently 7.25 an hour.

But democrats are pushing for just over 10 bucks.
Today the  group of lawmakers went grocery shopping and tried to keep their bill around 40 dollars.

They found their options for what they could buy, were limited.
"I normally get Del Monte steaks I couldn't get that today"
"In a given week, someone is looking at 317 dollars before taxes. And that's in a 40 hour work week.

Bills raising the minimum wage have so far gone nowhere.
President Obama is pushing a federal minimum wage hike in Washington.
