Pensacola Humane Society helps injured puppy 'Olaf'

Last Saturday morning on April 4 two young women came to the Pensacola Humane Society office at 5 North Q Street with a dog that had been hit by a car. The driver kept going, but the two women stopped and scooped up the injured dog and brought him to us.

The damage was extensive and the 6-month-old puppy was in shock. His back legs were both damaged, one crushed and his foot barely holding on.

The staff tried to stabilize and tourniquet the leg for transport and rushed him to the Veterinary Emergency Referral Center for immediate treatment.

The medical staff amputated the crushed leg and the puppy was transferred to Olive Branch Pet Hospital for rehabilitation.

The Pensacola Humane Society began a Facebook campaign to raise funds to pay for this $3,000 in bills. They have since raised $1,000. They also asked the community to name the puppy and 'Olaf' was chosen because he loves warm hugs.

Olaf will be up for adoption in a few weeks, and his status will be regularly updated on the Pensacola Humane Society Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pensacolahumanesociety).
