HEALTH: New weapon to fight infections in hospitals

MOBILE  --  A new weapon to fight infections in hospitals is popping up across the country including in Mobile.

It's a robotic machine that uses ultraviolet light to zap bacteria in hospital rooms.
Mobile Infirmary started using the robot in surgery rooms and on the post partum floor.
It can take 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the room
Using 24 UV lights -- the machine kills drug resistant bacteria that cause MRSA or Staph, VRE, C. DIFF, and even strains of the flu
Health officials hope its the key to reducing hospital infections. 
Something like this is needed to battle hospital acquired infections and our infection rate has gone down quite  significantly since we've had the issue

One in 25 hospital patients contract at least one health care associated infection in 2011, the CDC reports 75,000 patients died during their hospitalization.
