UWF student to appear on Ellen show Friday

A student from the University of West Florida got a once in a life time opportunity today.
James Matthews was invited to play piano on "The Ellen Degeneres Show".

You may remember James from a Channel Three News story we did with him a few weeks back.
He learned how to play piano when he was three years old.

When he was in high school, his family struggled financially which left him homeless and on his own.

He was able to attend college on a music scholarship, but at night would sleep wherever he could.
Thanks to the help of a music professor, James has been able to get a roof over his head and recently performed at Carnegie Hall.

Ellen Degeneres was so moved by his story she invited him to come play on her show.

She also surprised James with a check for $25-thousand dollars courtesy of Shutterfly as well as all the gifts from this past Ellen's 12 Days of Giveaways.
