Fla. lawmakers push to house hard liquor with beer, wine

Wine and beer are easy to find at supermarkets like Walmart and Publix.  But in Florida, hard liquor has to be sold at a separate store.

Now some state lawmakers say that requirement is outdated.   A bill filed this year would allow stores to sell both kinds of alcohol.  Former Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Director John Harris agrees with the idea.

"A law that passed immediately after prohibition, it's been in effect for about 100 years. It probably was a very good law when it was made based on the model of the liquor stores. That's changed today."said John Harris of Floridians for Fair Business Practices.

The bill hasn't been added to any committee agendas yet but the bill's sponsor is hopeful the old law can be repealed this year.
