Students in the PATS program headed to international competition

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  --  Students from the Pats Center in Escambia County are headed to an international competition that's focused on creativity.

The team came in second place in the state's "Odyssey of the Mind" event.
Their challenge was to write and produce a play based partly on a real historical court and partly from their imagination.
They picked an Italian king who died from the plague.
And their creative kingdom was populated by germs.

Mckenna White, 8th grader:  "I learned how to do costuming and makeup and also how to build our set, which was a good experience for me because I learned how to use power tools and I managed to not cut off my finger, so I think that's a really good improvement."

The Odyssey of the Mind events are designed to inspire innovation, problem-solving, and team work.
The world competition will be held in Iowa next month.
