Teens find new use for Burt's Bees lip balm
A quick search on YouTube and Twitter shows "Beezin" is picking up steam.
It involves people applying a light layer of Burt's Bees natural lip balm wax on their eyelids.
Those who are into "Beezin" say it adds to experience of being drunk or high.
Others say it helps to keep them alert.
So what's exactly causes that tingling sensation in Burt's Beeswax?
Dr. Brett Cauthen at Today Clinic looked over the ingredients and offered us a quick explanation.
"It's the peppermint oil that's causing the burning sensation and I suppose some people think that is kind of funny," says Dr. Cauthen.
Also keep in mind we are talking about your eyes, one of the most sensitive parts of your body so "Beezin" may cause pink eye-like symptoms.
"The peppermint oil in the lip balm is a very strong irritant and can cause inflammation in the eye redness of the eye swelling,"says Dr. Cauthen.
And Burt's Bees products are suppose to be 100 percent natural. Which might be why the trend seems fairly harmless but Dr. Cauthen warns using any product other than what's intended for is risky.
"Our big message is natural does not equate with safety," says Dr. Cauthen.
