Pensacola man arrested after threatening toddler's life and leading deputies on manhunt

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  --  A Pensacola man is facing charges after leading deputies on a manhunt in the woods with his two-year-old son.

Deputies got a call that Darin Mathis drove into the woods off Hillock Road in Escambia County Sunday.

A witness said Mathis had threatened to hurt or even kill the child.
Deputies searched for Mathis for about an hour and a half before getting a tip the child had been dropped off at a nearby home.

Deputies later caught Mathis and arrested him.
The child had some minor scratches, but was other wise unharmed.

Mathis is charged with child neglect - domestic violence, and resisting arrest without violence.
