HEALTH: Spring is officially here along with Pollen

It is officially spring time.
That typically means warmer weather, beautiful flowers and green grass.

But for allergy suffers it can mean weeks of feeling lousy from the pollen.
However, there are ways to combat the problems.

"It's obviously spring time in the south and if your car looks anything like mine it has got a blanket of pollen spread over it and experts say they expect this year to be one of the worst allergy seasons we've seen in a long time."

If you're coughing, sneezing, and feeling miserable you probably suffer from allergies..

And every where you look you see this.   Pollen.
Making your symptoms worse..
Chris Colbert  "It seems like it was worse this year then it has been in the previous years."

But why?
Stephen Kimura  "I think the pollinating plants didn't really die out like you would've expected and they really just sort of held their pollen. And now all the sudden it's warm and they release it and instead of having it spread over several weeks we're seeing it instantly."

Dr. Stephen Kimura says most of the pollen blowing around right now is tree pollen..

And sometimes fighting the battle against allergies can become expensive..

Chris Colbert "In the spring I start to get nose runs and I start to have to go to the doctor and get some medicine for it and everything."

Dr. Kimura has some tips...
"Keep windows closed, run that air conditioning both in your home as well as in your car. "I think another thing that is important is to actually get allergy tested find out what it is actually triggering your allergies."

The doctor also says if possible use saline nasal spray, antihistamines, and make sure you shower after being outside for long periods of time.

"If you find yourself suffering from allergies more so this year then in the past you should contact your physician."
