"Pop-tart" bill clears Florida House committee

A bill that some say will "let kids be kids" cleared a Florida house committee Saturday.

The "Pop-tart" bill would give school administrators more leeway in disciplining kids who use their fingers like a gun or turn harmless objects into the likeness of a gun.

The legislation lists items that kids can have or do without being suspended.
Rep. Dennis Baxley/bill sponsor said, "It's not hurting anybody, it's just kids being kids and being at school. Those things are not disruptive and we shouldn't overreact."

The bill was inspired by the case of a young Maryland student who was suspended from school after biting his pop-tart into the shape of a handgun.
