Gay couples sue state of Florida that same-sex marriage is unconstitutional

A Florida lawsuit is asking a judge to declare the state's refusal to recognize same-sex marriages as unconstitutional.

Eight gay couples and the American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit. They also want same-sex marriages performed in other states recognized in Florida.

In 2008 Florida voted to  add a ban on same-sex marriage to the state constitution. The ban was also challenged in a January lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County by six gay couples.
