Flags fly half-staff honoring Former Governor Reuben Askew

FLORIDA  --  Former Florida Governor Reubin Askew died early this morning in Tallahassee.

The 85-year -old was admitted to the hospital Saturday with aspiration pneumonia, and his condition worsened when he suffered a stroke
   
The former governor reformed the tax system and opened the government to greater public scrutiny creating the Florida Sunshine Law.
   
He represented Pensacola in the state legislature and became the first governor to win successive terms in 1970 and 1974.
   
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, two children and several grandchildren.
Governor Rick Scott has ordered the flags be flown at staff today in recognition of Askew's passing.
