Bill to ban E-cigarettes for minors goes to the Florida senate

FLORIDA  --  A bill aimed at banning minors from buying electronic cigarettes in Florida has reached the senate floor.

If approved the bill would make it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to buy or possess the devices.
E-cigarette makers claim the devices are a safer alternative to regular cigarettes because they emit nicotine through vapor and don't contain tobacco.

But the bills sponsor says they can be just as damaging to young people.
"The risks associated with nicotine include links to heart disease and blood pressure and, according to Moffitt Cancer Center, nicotine could disrupt brain development in adolescents."

The bill is awaiting a vote from the Florida senate.
